1 Chemosensitivity testing
Chemosensitivit testing -Dr Hembry has worked with Research Genetic Cancer Centre (R.G.C.C) in Greece (www.rgcc-genlab.com) since 2005 offering chemosensitivity testing in the UK. This is an in vitro test using DNA microarray tumour profiling for drug sensitivity prediction. Most of the complementary treatments used by Dr Hembry are included in this test profile, and the result is a summary of agents which may be most helpful for an individual's cancer. If people also wish to have information on orthodox chemotherapy drugs they can do so. Chemosensitivity testing is of much interest worldwide, both within the NHS and privately, and its proponents are currently seeking clinical validation for their tests. This type of testing will never predict 'in vivo' response to treatment with 100% accuracy and there are various reasons for this. However, worldwide research suggests that it does have 'positive predictive value and R.G.C.C's audited data from clinics worldwide showed that 70% of patients tested with stage 1V disease after 2 months of using at least 2 recommended treatments from chemosensitivity testing were either stable or in some degree of remission. If you or your doctor want more information on this test please call the office on 0117 9692814 2. Minimal Residual Disease testing R.G.C.C also offer tests for minimal residual disease ie cancer cells which are still present but not in large enough volume to be detected on a scan. In fact for a tumour to be visible on a scan at least 109 - 1012 cells must be present, which is a huge number. The advantage of this type of testing is that action may be taken earlier to try to avoid or stave off a recurrence. There are all sorts of issues in relation to the use of orthodox chemotherapy agents in this case, but simple non-toxic nutritional and other complementary strategies may offer some much-overlooked help. MRD screening will not appeal to everyone, and it may generate unhelpful anxiety for some. But because these tests are not 'diagnosing' a recurrence, but rather are giving some indication of likelihood of recurrence, then they provide an opportunity for those that want it to take some positive action. 3. Nutrigenomics This is 'personalised prevention' and incorporates state of the art gene testing coupled with personalised nutritional and lifestyle advice. The genes assessed are principally those which play a key role in how we fare as we interact with our environment eg biotransformation genes, and the aim of this kind of testing is to identify any weaknesses which are amenable to modification by specific lifestyle measures. 4. Other tests Dr Hembry advises on tests which may be helpful for an individual. She draws on orthodox tests as well as complementary laboratory services eg for nutritional assays, detailed endocrine analysis, tests for toxicity, food and environmental allergy, infection and comprehensive stool analysis etc. If you are looking for something in particular, let us know and we will see if we can help you |
